What causes exam flags and violations, and how can I prevent them?
Please be aware that repeated flags during your session may require your exam to be sent to proctoring review which can take a few days to be processed. In order to prevent flags and violations, here are some tips to get your environment ready for the remote-proctored exam:
- No other people in the room: People entering/exiting the exam space and background conversations frequently cause flags and may invalidate your exam. Please find a private, quiet space.
- Clear background: Signs, clutter, or bulletin boards with notes and flyers can be picked up as “notes” by the proctoring system. TV or computer screens in the background (even if turned off) can be flagged as an unauthorized device in the testing area. You will be required to complete a room scan. Phones, notes, books, etc. should be moved off your desk or table.
- Camera quality and lighting: Poor camera quality can prevent the system from having a clear view of your face. Bright light behind the test taker (like a large window) or overly dark rooms (where the computer screen reflects bright light on the face) can distort the facial view.
- Full face should remain visible: Leaning too close to the screen, angling your camera, wearing a hat or beanie, or propping your head in your hands can lead to flags for not having your full face in view.
- Technology: Make sure you have a stable internet connection and have closed ALL other tabs on your device (including Teams, calendars, emails, etc.). You will need to download the Chrome extension for HonorLock in the next step. This means you must be using the Chrome browser. Any technology in your space, aside from the testing computer, needs to be turned off and put away. This includes watches, TVs, phones, headphones, etc.
You will need to agree to these instructions in the testing platform before unlocking your exam.
